Coalition Canada Basic Income - revenu de base

Coalition Canada is a cross-country alliance of basic income advocacy groups and networks. With the recent addition of a NWT member, Coalition Canada now includes members from all Canadian provinces and territories. Our key focus is upon advocating for a basic income within provinces and territories and across Canada.

Several key projects have been the focus of our work over the past year:

·       The PEI project: Coalition Canada formed a “proposal team” made up of economists, former federal MP’s, sitting PEI MLA’s, policy experts and advocates. They have been working for over a year to develop a picture of what a feasible Fed/Prov demonstration project could look like. The proposal addresses numerous issues such as cost, financing, labour participation and Fed/Prov cooperation for implementation. Importantly, it also proposes a method for evaluating the project. The report is currently in the hands of PEI political representatives who are deciding how to proceed.

·       Meetings with MPs and Senators: Members of Coalition Canada are currently meeting with MPs and Senators across the country to develop relationships, educate on basic income, strengthen collaborations, and encourage support for a PEI demonstration project.

·       Green Resilience: Coalition Canada participated in the development, implementation, and completion of the Green Resilience Project, in collaboration with BICN, BICYN, and Energy Mix. The final report was released in April, 2022.

·       Municipalities’ work: Coalition Canada members have been working with municipalities across Canada to pass resolutions in support of a basic income. Recently, Coalition Canada members have formed a group to strategize with elected mayors, reeves and councilors on how to expand that work.

·       Meetings with national and local Indigenous leaders: Coalition Canada members have been meeting with staff from various national Indigenous groups (AFN, NAFC, NWAC, and FNIGC) to develop relationships and share information around basic income.

Basic Income Canada Network

Basic Income Canada Network (BICN) is a unique national organization dedicated to ensuring everyone can meet basic needs and live with dignity.

We reflect varied perspectives because there are many reasons for a basic income. At the same time, we are geared towards feasible policy solutions that make sense for Canada. We are respected leaders in shaping the public awareness and conversations that will get us there.

We work alongside the growing number of individuals and groups within the wider basic income movement, many of them in our supporter and donor base, and with allies that have related interests and mandates.

We are a catalyst for new activity and a trusted resource for anyone wanting to learn more, to be part of this effort, or to have an informed say about a critical societal and economic issue.

Founded in 2008, BICN is a registered non-profit, non-partisan organization. Our board of directors come from all walks of life and a circle of advisors adds even more diversity of expertise and ideas. As an affiliate of the international Basic Income Earth Network, we are connected to networks of people around the world as well as across Canada.
